About Galena:

The scenic historic town of Galena (www.visitgalena.org) , nine miles north of Chestnut Mountain, and named for the lead ore mined there in the 1800s, offers great shopping, a variety of restaurants, art galleries, ghost tours, trolley tours, antiques, and more.  History buffs can visit the Ulysses S. Grant House, dine at the DeSoto House Hotel where both Lincoln and Douglas addressed throngs from the balcony, or stroll through the Galena History Museum, located in an 1858 Italianate mansion built as the private home of a successful merchants from Galena’s boomtown era.  The area also offers golfing, winery tours and tastings, and the Mississippi Palisades State Park.  And finally, and most importantly, this northwestern corner of Illinois is part of the Driftless Area (Driftless Area - Wikipedia) which includes some of the best riding roads in the country!

Rooms are on multiple floors and there is no elevator, so anyone unable to navigate stairs should specify ground floor room.

Deposit Policy- 50% of the stay is required at the time of reservation.

Rooms will be held in the room block until June 25, 2024. Any rooms not secured with a deposit will be released to general availability.

Out of towners can fly into O’Hare (Chicago), Midway (Chicago south side), or Rockford International Airport (Rockford, IL, near the Wisconsin border), and rent a car. Estimated drive time from Midway and O’Hare is ~3.0 hours, and ~1.5 hours from Rockford.

Tent, trailer, truck and/or RV camping are not allowed at Chestnut Mountain!!! Camping accommodations can be reserved at Blandings Landing, about five miles away, by visiting https://www.recreation.gov/search?q=blanding%20landing&entity_id=233427&entity_type=campground
